About Carly

I was born in Tucson, Arizona. At age eight my family moved to Phoenix. I grew up swimming, because that is about all one can do during the summers in Arizona.  When I was 18 I moved to Prescott to attend college.  While at college, I met my best friend and maid-of-honor, Rebekah Cisman.  After two years of living in  Prescott I moved to Flagstaff, Arizona to attend Northern Arizona University. I earned my Bachelors in Interior Design. I worked for a local furniture company as a sales associate and designer of children’s rooms.  In 2009, after graduating with my Masters in Elementary Education, Matt and I moved to Colorado Springs.  I am now a first grade teacher at an inner city charter school and I am enjoying every minute of teaching and living in Colorado.

About Matt

I grew up with a loving extended family in central Illinois. We later moved to Colorado where I spent my middle-school years, to Wyoming for high-school, and Arizona for college. I’m a software engineer with a bit of artistic flair. I get a lot of variety in my work so between that and being with Carly, I can honestly say I am never bored. Outside of my typical nerdy pastimes, I enjoy camping, biking, running, driving, and pretty much anything else to get me out of my office.

How we met

Three years ago a young man and even younger women found each other.  The girl swore she would never date, let alone marry, a man she met while at a bar. Little did she know this man would become her best friend and now her husband. The man had similar feelings; it was love at first sight he said. The two spent almost every day they could together. Their first date was to play in the snow in Flagstaff, Arizona. They ate pizza and both discovered their same admiration for Guns N’ Roses, November Rain. The adventure continued, they traveled, laughed, and soon developed the same interests. The man became a runner and the girl started getting into music.  The two moved to Colorado Springs and on April 22, 2011 settled into a house where their lives as an engaged couple would begin.

How we got engaged

Matt and I got engaged on April 22, 2011. It was Good Friday and the day we were moving into our new house. I continuously joke about it “being the best Friday ever.” Matt had secretly called my dad the night prior to us moving to ask for permission. While waiting at our new house, for the previous owners to come by to show a few things, Matt opened a bottle of champagne to toast our new house. He poured each of us a glass and looked straight into my eyes and said, ” I bought this house for the two of us and I don’t want it to be our house, I want it to be our home.” He got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him.
